Mark your calendars!
Sunday April 26 on PBS at 10 :30PM EST, 9:30 Central
PBS Special featuring:
TUBA U: BASSO PROFUNDO
"TUBA U: BASSO PROFUNDO takes a fulsome look at the history, physicality and personalities of the tuba -- an amazing, if unheralded, horn. This 30 minute program follows an unusual 22-piece musical ensemble into the recording studio, across the U.S., and onto the stage of renowned Carnegie Hall. Featuring the career of tuba maestro Winston Morris, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gunther Schuller, German tuba makers, and the 100-member Tubas of Mass Destruction, this is the offbeat anatomy of one instrument that speaks to the dedication shared by players of all instruments."

As is true with any PBS program: CHECK YOUR LOCAL LISTINGS! (and then check again!)
For us in the SF Bay Area - from what I see so far, KQED says it will be showing only on their DTS2 channel at 7:30 on the 26th, but that is not in agreement with the schedule my Tivo and Comcast cable has - don't see it coming up there any time in the next two weeks.
If that changes I hope to catch it, but maybe I will have to wait until it is available some other way (or on re-run.)

It's on the national DirecTV satellite feed from PBS (a separate subscription), but not on either of the Georgia local PBS feeds. Jerks.

I sent a schedule question to my local PBS station (KQED) and got a "no reply" reply...
Thank you for contacting KQED.

They raise millions of bucks from the audience every year and they can't tell me when a show is on?
Bah!

Alas, I can not find it listed on any of the local Los Angeles PBS stations either. They do have a nice story about it on the PBS website, but it is not listed for broadcast anytime in the next two weeks in SoCal.
Link to the PBS story:

Click to watch the trailer for the program, nice solo work at the beginning:

I'm on the thing and can't get it on T.V. An undergrad at TTU bought the DVD and brought it to my school. It is a pretty good program

Just checked the local listings; it's going to be a great evening: Dickens "Little Dorret" comes on @ 8:00 pm local time, then Tuba Profundo comes on right after that @ 9:30.

I'm with you, David. KQED-PBS has some good qualities, but they can be a big pain, also. I went on their site and finally came up with their statement that the tuba show was not scheduled in the next two weeks. My reaction was, "Well, OK, but when will it be scheduled?" No information. One of the most objectionable things about KQED in the past was their voice overs at the closing moments of some programs. Example, a documentary about the carnage of warfare in Viet Nam had final scenes of a helicopter slowly ascending over a battlefield showing bodies in the hundreds. The accompanying music was serious and profound---a very sobering close to the program. All of a sudden,
before the program was complete, a cheery KQED marketer's voice was interjected announcing the upcoming programs. It had the rude impact of someone farting during a prayer in church. Such sensitivity, eh?

In the New York area, this will be broadcast on May 9th at 5:30 a.m. on WNET (channel 13). You can check the PBS website by zipcode to figure out if it will be broadcast in your area.
I hope to see it, but I don't think I will watch it at 5:30 a.m.!
