Go with the gold. Will look nice with the all-black elsewhere.

Since the African shirt sans tie was an option... . Although, it might not be "loud" enough.

I am definitely the last person who should comment on fashion. As a geezer, I go for comfort first, last and always, so the dashiki would be my choice.
I had Hariett come in here and I showed her your choices. She be a fashion whiz.
She said a man with dark hair should wear the purple shirt with all that black.
Don't be afraid of color.

I would wear one of these outfits, or maybe both. Do a wardrobe change during the break.

Light colored shirt. Go for the GOLD!!!
Find a cheapo multi colored tie. Reds, purples, florescent greens - that will really pop in contrast to the gold shirt.

If socks are open for colors - go with one each - purple and one gold!!!

Sorry for adding a response that might be a bit too serious, but here goes . . .

I think the purple shirt is a bad idea because the tuba has too much purple and other dark colors, and the shirt will be *close* but NOT a match, which I think would look wrong.

With the gold shirt and purple tie (less purple fabric), I think that's less of an issue. (My vote was gold shirt and purple tie.)

Also - you've used purple as an accent color on the tuba, so it should also be an accent (not predominant) color in the clothes.

If you post photos of all combinations after you get the shirts and ties, I'd be curious to see if I'm correct on this.
