I think it was called a 4j.

The 2j that I used to own was made by (or used parts from?) Olds. (that's FE Olds, made in California, not the newer 'Olds' stuff you can buy).

The Olds BBb equivalent would have been the 099. My 2j played just like an Olds 099. Some parts are definitely interchangeable.

The Reynolds equivalent would have been the TB10.

There is also a Bach equivalent. I don't know the model number.

Plus, the 5J, currently still in production, is pretty darn close (but not AS close as the ones already mentioned.)

Reason: I have to take a trip shortly before I have to play, and I want to borrow/rent a BBb horn to practice with. A chap who lives there has very kindly offered to let me use a Conn 2J. My research shows Eb 2Js made in the early 1900s and CC 2Js made in the 1950s. I have played a CC horn briefly, and while reading music with it screws with my mental intonation a bit (It really did!), I think it would be OK for practice. I just want ask if it's possible that the horn is BBb

OK, I need to network more. I'm tuba shopping, and I could have used an Atlanta contact a couple of months ago. Also, my coach has been suggesting CC horns, but I'm a mossback who's forgotten even my Eb fingering. BTW, our Fayetteville (NC) Bavarian Brass was the center band for Savannah's Riverfest last October.

I have and new 5J that I had the valves lapped and plastic valve guides put on. It's an excellent player. They go for 4600+ at the big stores but i'd sell it for 4000.00 if you want it. Also, more realistically, Dillon Music has one for about 3000.00 and there's one on Ebay with one big dent for cheap. They are great horns but definitely not the flavor of the month right now. I'm parting with mine to buy a 3J which is the same thing in C. I've never played one I didn't like or a 2J that I did but that's just me. Good Luck, Ed

You'd love a Gerhard Schneider (B and S) CC tuba like this old one I recently bought. It's a killer horn with terrific intonation and gorgeous sound. One of the sweetest CC's I've played. It's built like an Army tank too.
