does anyone have any info on the eric ewazen bass trombone concerto? i've been asked to play it with my university's trombone choir next semester and i wanted to scope it out first.

Some things you can expect from just about any Ewazen piece:

syncopation at the eighth note, lack of dissonance (mostly consonant intervals), driving rhythmic sections, pleasing to listen to for most listeners.

The bass bone concerto is a good piece. Ewazen has developed a distinct style of composition. Most of his pieces for brass contain the same licks and sounds. I will keep performing his music as the general public still thinks they sound fresh. From a brass player's viewpoint, after you hear a few of his instrumental pieces, they start to blend together. Eugene Bozza is another composer who recycles licks and patterns. Easy to listen to, but after awhile you know what is coming.

The Concertino for bass trombone and trombone choir is a nice short piece (one movement) in three sections, with a cadenza. Is this the piece you were talking about (I didn't know that the Concerto had a choir accompaniment)? Concertino makes for a good audition piece if you will have the chance to play with accompaniment.

i must have meant concertino for bass bone and choir. the tbone professor just told me about it and he didn't give me any specifics...new question; what does everyone know about the concertino?
