My high school bought 7 new Czerveny tubas back in 2003 and bought some amp felt covered cases (that weighed like 150 lbs each). They held up very nice. I would load it in and out of my grandpa's truck and drag it up and down stairs and there was very minimal wear. The case was built like a tank so the horn held up fine (even for a Czerveny...lol). It's worth the money if you travel a lot by plane or bus or anywhere the case could be subjected to abuse (like a middle/high school).

I imagine that if you have a cat, or dog, the case may become "fuzzy" over time! :D

our school has one of those--pretty indestructable in normal use. dont' know about the rain factor, though. Heavy, heavy, heavy. wheels are "ok" but not great.
overall, rather unwieldy, but good for storage, like in a bandroom, etc.

would not suggest it for hauling it around, in and out of vehicles, etc.

While I cannot speak directly about amp felt covered cases, I can tell you that I have three amp felt bass speaker cabinets that have been used rather heavily over the past fifteen years. A lot of lugging these things around for gigs in all types of weather and varying degrees of care when striking sets.

Water.
I also wondered about the rain factor, and if these things would wick the water up like a sponge. Answer – not an issue at all. I wouldn’t leave them sitting for extended periods in the rain, but in the time they sit when loading/unloading in nasty weather there has been no issue at all.

Durability.
These things take all kinds of abuse – if a traditional amp covering (or, in this instance, an instrument case covering), they would have been scuffed, marked, scratched, and probably torn. There is not a mark on these things. A few little “fuzzies” where REALLY scuffed, but hardly noticeable from a couple of feet away.

If the instrument case of which you speak is covered with similar material, it should prove extremely durable – at least based upon my experience. FWIW.

Cheers.
