Well, you could have found the majority of the large branches of this horn on most of the tubas used by US Navy bands in the 50s and 60s. So, yes, that horn is my inspiration. Always loved those Popeye cartoons.

Then it very well might be a main frame from a Martin tuba. Those large ones looking somewhat similar to the Conn 2XJ series, but with a smaller bore of the inner branches.

That bell has a pretty meaty throat. I bet that is something Sam fashioned or had built.

Anybody wish they could see Sam's "boneyard"- where all old tubas go to be made new again?

Sam, I assume that your basic price is for what appears to be in the photo: a 4 piston, 1 rotor raw brass 6/4 CC horn.

Are you able to do any customization, such as adjusting the height of the leadpipe and/or the position of the valveset to match the physical dimensions of the player?

Since there has been discussion about this on the Board, would you build a 6/4 5-valve BBb for the same price?

Is there a lower cost for a tuba that is already completely built vs. one that is "ordered?"

We haven't determined what the 5-valve CC 6/4 horn will go for.

Since we build them to order, we can accomodate most requests for customization.

I built a 6/4 BBb to these specs. several years ago. I'll do another one. Maybe that will be the next.

Because there are some structural flaws ie. patched branches, funky alignment of tubing, etc., I'm keeping this prototype for myself to play and for demonstration purposes. Those flaws would not be present in any horn that would be ordered.

BBb would probably run the same price as for the CC, no difference in price for ordered horn versus one that has already been built.

This looks the same size as your horn, which is tiny as it is.....that's not an optical illusion is it!??? It's SO huge for being so small....like carrying a small dense planet

It's no illusion as you allude to my 4/4 CC. The 6/4 CC is only about 33" tall. I'm guessing that it only weighs about 10 kg.
