Differences (if any) between 187 and 188

Has anyone played both the 187 and 188? I’m curious if you found any difference between them besides cost, as they are supposedly the same tuba in different keys. If they are essentially the same tuba, wouldn't it make sense to purchase the less-expensive one?

The one 187 I played was a stinker. With all of the hype, I went with the intention (and money) to buy that horn (it was used). I couldn't believe it played so badly, so I went back and played it for a second time. Still not for me. I've played a few 188's. All winners, none for sale.
Peace.

I played a 5-valve 187 while I was in the army, and I owned a 188. Both were good horns. The response on the 188 was a little quicker, but that's probably attributable to it being in CC. No complaints for either horn. Having a fifth valve on a BBb is neat, but not really necessary, IMHO.
