You've GOT to be kidding! A cat won't dent a tuba unless it manages somehow to knock it over!
Yeah... you need to get it fixed. See if the cat will pay for it.

.....just how big a cat are we talking? For a dent that size and deep, I can't see how I cat could pull that off.

Oh yeah you definitely need to get that fixed...and have a talk with the cat--he might throw in few dollars (or a couple of mice) for it.

That's a "door jamb dent" if I've ever seen one.

I would agree! That is about the size of a dent which was taken out of one of my tubas professionally with a dent eraser in 5 minutes. Will just leave a slight ripple. That dent got in my tuba, without me ever finding out how too.
I tend to think the cat is a 'red herring'. Most likely done in transit somewhere.

This is a lil off topic, but I had a friend that had a "cat" that was rather large.. It turned out to be a bengal. That thing could have definitely left a dent.

I don't think they kept him much longer after he wasn't a cub.. It may or may not have been illegal to have him in Georgia.

Mind you, if he does not have room to store the tuba out of the way of the cat, it is likely he also does not have room for a hard case

James,
Don't waste your time and money on so-called "instrument" repairmen. This is easily fixed by a local "street mechanic" who does bodywork. He will drill a small hole in the middle of the dent. Screw in a slide hammer, couple of pulls, and the dent is basically gone. Fill in the hole and level to slightly above the surface with Bondo, and then sand smooth. Works like a charm.

That sounds a very heath-robinson way of repairing a small dent. Why have a hole drilled in the tuba when it can be repaired almost invisibly and with no further damage using magnets?

This does seem to be the "in vogue" method for funding things, these days. Doesn't it?

And if that fat cat removes his cleats to sign the check, you may have the answer to how he did it.

Neptune, you need to schedule a trip to the southeastern United States; Once we get up up to speed on the concept of "good food", we can then get you up to speed on "redneck humor".

I actually had to Google "Heath-Robinson" to find that it is the British version of Rube Goldberg.

Looks like we may both have learnt something - You an English phrase and me US humor!
