I am now the proud owner of a Kalison 2000 Pro, my first CC tuba. I'd like to publicly thank Mark Norman for being a great guy to work with and agreeing to meet me half way ( NC to TX ) for me to pick up the horn. I'm busy trying to get used to CC fingerings and loving the sound of this tuba. Being that I love the comparison photo shots, I of course created this photo of my 2341 next to the Kalison.

The King likely has the widest bell diameter, while the Kalison still has the much larger bell volume.

It is kind of interesting to see the Kalison bell profile being rather similar to the one of my British baritones and for that matter also the profile of my Boosey F and the discontinued British Imperial/New Standard tubas, only with a much larger (relative) diameter. I think the term for the bell curve is exponential.

When the British brasses had their bell diameters widened, they rather took the American way and added to the flare than to the throat diameter.

I would like to try that Kalison.

It is interesting to note that the successor, the K2001, has largely the same bell but with the additional flare to reach the "magic" number of 19.5 - 20 inches that seems to be required for entry into the "big boys tuba club"
(Never mind that some older Kaiser tubas had bells ranging from 16.5 to 17.5 inches...)

Are you referring to the newest King BBb, which so confusingly also is called the 2341?

I meant the Kalison K2001, which was their last 5/4-6/4 horn made.

My error just demonstrates, that even if I have been aware of Kalison for several years, and even if Kalison has had some unique features, that company never has become part of the upper layers of my brass thinking.

One certain feature, quite costly, but never very popular, was about tubas with one set of bell and large branches combined with two valve blocks, one piston and one rotary.

Never had a Kalison in my hands, but would have liked owning one of their 4 piston BBb cimbassos.

Proud new owner of a 1969 Conn 20J--looks great for 40 and sounds awesome! Gonna use it for 4th of July concert. An American horn for an American holiday!
