Really the big time!

This evening I did a strolling banjo trio gig at the American Yacht Club in Rye, NY.
Nice view of the Whitestone & Throgs Neck Bridges, and Manhattan skyline on the horizon. The little kids seemed to like us, and the adults were mildly amused, as one expects in that kind of neighborhood.
The real professionalism of the operation hit me when we were winding up with "God Bless America": as we inhaled for the last note a club employee ran up to stop us so they could take down the flag.
Ending the night on the dominant 7 seems to be perfectly acceptable there.
The OCD poster boys I usually work with in CT could never have done it.

That sort of thing has happened to me (usually when playing for a wedding or political event.) Hurry up and then stand there for 45 minutes while something "really important" doesn't happen, then when you do start playing somebody invariably come up to cut you off...

At least we usually get paid!
