Hello

I'm wondering if there is anyone in the Dallas or Houston area or anyone one in Texas, who is willing to take apart a valve section and rebuild it, I'd rather not have simple references to a music shop. but the actual person who can do this repair.

If you can do this, Please EMAIL me

Mhaynes01ataoldotcom

cheers

Dennis can't do it in house, but he can disassemble and send it out to have it done and put it back together very nicely. He did a great restoration on a schimdt style horn for me a few years ago where he had to have the piston valve sent out to get rebuilt. I'm assuming you are talking about piston valves. I think they do rotary valves in house but don't know if they have the equipment to tuba sized valves, as it is primarily a horn shop.

I concurr with the suggesion of Vurl Bland. Within the past year he rebuilt the valve section of a friends (circa 1900) Conn Eb. He actually sent the valve section out of state for the replating.

He also used an endoscope the align the valves of my piston horns with surprisingly good results in each case.

And he is a fine player and a good man.

the valves slides won't move because some of the bracing is 'digging' into the slides.

Houghton Horns does in-house rotor valve rebuilds all the time. We do French Horn to Tuba size rotor valves with great success. I did my roadkill (PT 10 F ) tuba a year and a half ago and recently my 188 that I have had for 27 years.

Additionally, we do piston rebuilds with the help of Anderson Plating. We do all the prep in-house and Anderson does the plating. After getting the valve cluster and pistons back we then reassemble the horn.

Eric Swanson is a very fine repairman and lives just a couple miles from me. He lives in Hurst, TX, I am sure you can look him up in the phonebook.

I do valve rebuilds. Both piston and rotary.
Old worn rotors can be plated and made like new.
Pistons can have holes patched and plating renewed. In fact just today completed plating some pistons for a school in the area.
Precision valve alignments for both pistons and rotors are available.
All work is done in house!

Located in Dallas/Fort Worth

I highly recommend Terry Ghiselli at High School Music in San Antonio. He has done amazing work for me multiple times. I can't say for sure, but I assume he, like every other repair technician I know of, would have the actual plating done by Anderson.

If you want more information, send me a pm.

Mike

Terry Ghiselli is awesome. He used to be in the Houston area and did amazing work. Not sure about the plating, but probably Andersons.
Years ago Rex Bullock Who owned Ed Myers USA in San Antonio did plating, but I believe he sold the company. Not sure if they are still plating there or the quality.
Terry is very good, and very smart, he will do great work.
