The idea of pulling cloths through the bugle never stuck as well as some of the cloths did.

Haven’t saxophonists a disk shaped brush similar to the ones used for cleaning chimneys. With a longer line between the brush and the weight it might be a relevant tool.

What I do is hosing the brass instrument from the leadpipe/receiver with hot water out of the tap. Our water by law is above the temperature killing the germs causing the Legionaires disease. By economy it isn’t much hotter, so without measuring it I would say 59° Celcius. I operate the valves. If the instrument lies securely, the worst hazard is about slides coming off under the pressure.

Don’t rely on being able to hold the instrument at this temperature.
