I have made transcriptions for several instruments not reading treble clef concert of a popular oboe solo by Carl Nielsen.

The music is available for free from my download project:

Carl Nielsen: 2 Fantasy pieces originally for oboe and piano. This is a hybrid project, where you may download the original piano score from this open source:

Here you will find the solo part transcribed for strings, woodwinds, and brasses reading from concert Alto, Tenor, or Bass clefs or from Treble clef notation in F, Bb, or Eb:

Enjoy!

Klaus Smedegaard Bjerre

The preface says:
2 Fantasistykker for obo og klaver - opus 2
Phantasiestücke für Oboe
2 Fantasy Pieces for oboe and piano
composed circa 1890 by Carl Nielsen (1865 - 1931) and dedicated to Olivo Krause
Solo part transcribed by Klaus Smedegaard Bjerre 2009

This piece is very popular in Denmark and is often heard on classical radio. It at the same time displays Carl Nielsen’s roots in Danish folk music and presents a tonality, which is more related to the art music of Nielsen’s youth.

By pure hazard this transcriber found the original edition made available for free download from this address:

Having professional tuba and euphonium friends in mind I had to consider the situation. There was no way I could typeset the piano score better than the original edition. And as I had no intention about doing an arrangement, I decided to do a hybrid project. For the sake of fairness the original edition shall be downloaded from the original open source. My project then will provide the solo part transposed for instruments not normally reading from treble clef concert notation.

While I was at it, I made six versions:

Bass Clef concert: playable by great bass recorder, bassoon, cello, bass trombone, or tuba in F, Eb, CC, or BBb
Tenor Clef concert: playable by bassoon, cello, tenor trombone, or euphonium
Alto Clef concert: playable by viola or alto trombone
Treble Clef in F: playable by trumpet or horn
Treble Clef in Bb: playable by clarinets, saxophones, or brasses reading TC notation in Bb
Treble Clef in Eb: playable by clarinets, saxophones, or brasses reading TC notation in Eb

As some versions will take the solo line 2 octaves down, some chords will come out in inversions not intended by the composer. In some situations the lowest piano note should be taken down an octave. In some situations where the soloist has long notes no modifications should be necessary. I would not recommend changing the relative octave within the respective solo parts.

This edition can be used free of charge, but an e-mail would be nice.
