So, as you may or may not know, I bought Neptune's Cerveny 701. Picked it up yesterdayafternoon at Greyhound, and got to play it for about 15 minutes (took it out at my grandmother's). Then I went to a concert, and didn't get a chance to play it again until late at night...at which point my neighbor complained. BUT, today I finally got a chance to really dig in and see what it was made of.
I had first used a Diablo lite, and it gave a pretty good sound, but then I tried the 24AWI that was in the case. All of a sudden, the horn just popped. It did anything I wanted it to. Low and loud (i'm still working on the really loud part, but it's definitely solid), high solos, lyrical, technical. I don't really know why it works so well together, but I would have to say that it's the most natural big sound I've ever gotten.

That's a big horn. I'm pleased for you that it is so nimble and easy-speaking. I'm envious. I had a chance to play a MW Fafner a couple years back and was just shocked at how easy that was to play, being that it was so much bigger than my Mira 186.

How's the 4th-line F?
Mine was very flat, but 4th valve solves it.

I noticed that the F, E, and Eb were all feeling like I had to push up a LOT...but then i looked down and saw that the main tuning slide had slid out a bit more, so the tuning on the entire horn was going down

For others transporting tubas across the Atlantic, I will commend Continental Airlines. The Cerveny not only safely came across with me receiving no damage, but they charged me no excess although it weighed close to 30kg packed in its hard case. On my return flight to London, I brought a 1952 Conn 26K Eb sousaphone (for a friend, rather than me!) and that also travelled safely and at no additional charge. I even had it delivered to me on trolley at London Heathrow, rather than it dropping down onto the conveyor with cases.
