Anyone played this who can comment? It looks murderously huge! A Rudy fighter?

What are the differences from the Fafner?

I note the larger bell (50cm v 48cm) and different leadpipe. Anything else?

Using the photos as reference (and the rotor casings are near to the same size), I appears that the bottom bow and bell are all larger in circumference with a notably larger bell throat.

Looks to match the Rudolf Meinl 5/4 BBb.

This is one of those times I wish that the MW website had decent pictures. They're not only small, but there are no detail close ups, and some of the photos are stretched or scewed (like the Travel F and the Piston Fafner).

A non tubist must be in charge of the website...

Going by the picture, the Fasolt bell looks very much like the Neptune bell in profile. B&S and Meinl-Weston are the same company, so could be the case???

I notice they have also sensibly now moved the main water key on the Fasolt to the bottom of the tuning slide (instead of the side as on the Fafner)

BTW Looking at the Meinl-Weston website the 2165 is no longer listed, so wonder if that model has been discontinued (replaced by the Baer)?

Where would you like the 4th valve to be located then?
Like the 3+1 rotary euphonium by Rudolf Meinl, for the left hand?

From what I've seen on the price of the Baer model, this one is likely to have a Rudy price too...

Is this maybe the BBb that Herr Meinl made for Mister Pokorny? Just an idea...

No, Mr. Pokorny is playing the piston Fafner 195/5P.

The number of large BBb tuba models is impressive. There must be a huge market for them in Germany, or it will be hard for me to believe the makers will have their costs covered.

I never saw a price on any of them. What are the prices in Germany (including German VAT) for the 4P+1RV Fafner with and without handmade bows?

It is several years since I talked with the Thomann brass department on the phone. Their stock appeared to be low end, so I never really looked there since then. The prices for the Fafner versions are high, but not as insanely high as I had expected.

Thank you very much for leading me to that information!

Something like that... compensating, of course...

Hirsbrunner has a compensating Eb rotor, I'm sure they would be willing to make a 5th valve- like link to the 4th rotor...
Would have its price though...

That one appears NOT to have handmade bows like the 195/2.
Last time I saw the price for a 195/2, it was like 16000 EUR or so...
That would make +2000 EUR for a 195/5p with handmade bows = 18000EUR.

I'd rather have a Rudy BBb @ 12000 EUR + a Cerveny in another key @ 6000 EUR...

only my personal opinion, the 195/5p might be the best tuba out there, but still...

Hmm . . . no mention of the weight on their site. Or the option to have your lungs surgically replaced by bellows or an electric blower motor.

Well, ~$25,000 for a handmade 195/5p is still better than ~$30,000 for a Yamayork (which doesn't even come in BBb!). :)

Haha, is this some sort of marketing ploy by the German manufacturers to tell us Americans "Hey, BBb is better than CC...do you believe us NOW?"
