Yucatan Symphony Tuba Spot Open

Hello everyone,

Those of you who know me know that I play bass trombone in the Yucatan Symphony Orchestra. About a year ago, our tuba player (a Spanish guy who studied in the Netherlands with Hendrik Jan Renes) won the tuba spot in the Jalisco Symphony Orchestra. We had an invited tuba player for a year, and we just recently held a national tuba audition. We did not pick a winner.

So now we are planning an international tuba audition sometime between January and June of 2010. In the meantime, we will need someone to come and sub with us for 6 months to a year, or at least until the audition, which they will hopefully take. The job is Principal Tuba, and pays between $16,500 and $18,000US depending on the conversion rate. It pays plenty to live in Merida comfortably, and the city of Merida is a beautiful place to live. The orchestra plays well and is getting better every day. Our upcoming season (the fall semester is one season for us) includes Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique, Gerswhin American in Paris, Brahms 2, West Side Story, and some other fun stuff for tuba. There are two programs with no tuba, meaning two (paid) weeks off for tuba, so there would be some time to travel around and get to know the Yucatan.

If anyone is interested in coming down to sub with us until the audition, please send me your resume ASAP! My email address is jamesmeador@hotmail.com" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank.

Hope to hear from some people!!

Best wishes,
James Meador

Hello again everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you to the forum for the overwhelming response to my post for the Principal Tuba spot here in the Yucatan. We are very pleased with the resumes we received and will have a decision soon for those of you who sent materials in.

I'll be sure to post who we invite as well as when the upcoming audition will be as soon as we get it scheduled.

Best wishes,
James Meador
