Flushing a Conn 40K sousaphone

Today I was working on a Customers 40K conn sousaphone It need a few hours work to make it Playable.I did all the work ,then I flushed it and a feather came out. But I gave it a toot anyway??? But it played Very Bad so ,I know there was something in it ,So I got out a long drain cleaning spring That I use only for work like this and to feed in dent balls sometimes. Put it in from the tuning slide out. More feather?? So I flushed it again ..OUT CAME A BIG DIED BLACK BIRD!!!
I was playing that horn OH My!!!! But now it plays great!!!! Very in tune.The ( F) right below the staff is right on that is a good horn.

At least you made the 40K playable. bloke took off the brass body of his 40K and replaced it with plastic.

Same thing happened when my Conn BBb Helicon was rebuilt - it had been kept in a semi-open basement for a few years and probably a cat had stuffed the blackbird down the bell for "future use" and it lodged down too far to get it out again. I had flushed the horn with a garden hose before I took it in for repair, but it took disassembly and pushing it with a stick to actually remove the bird. This was back in 1978.

...but tossed a short-action valveset in the case with the body to make a future 20K.

Less joyous is a major omission of mine: I never saved the photos of the pimpophone!
I tried to use the TN search engine, but there I have to realise my eye problem. I cannot read index stuff in an acceptable speed. Do you hav elinks to the threads?

Hahahahaha! I'll try and bring you more entertaining horns in the future, Harv! LOL! I'm not surprised that there was something dead lodged in there. I rescued that horn from a farmer's toolshed where I'm sure it had hung for at least 4 decades, if not longer. Can't wait to see photos of the refurbished horn. By the way, it was a pleasure to finally meet you in person, Harv!

My friend from Switzerland wanted to know if you had to pay ex. dudeen to it over the Canadian Boarder with the bird in there. LOL He always has to pay a lot to horns into Switzerland. The horn doesn't look much different. Your Buyer just wanted it to play. He said he like them looking old just so it plays Good.. It was very nice meeting you and your family ...Thanks Harv.
