I was wondering if I stripe lacquer off a horn would it mess anything up dealing with playing and tone quality because there are superstitions that it can mess up horns tone quality.

Your chops will have more influence on your tuba than the lacquer. Strip away.

Been there, done that. Just be aware that any change in response and tone is MUCH more noticable up close than it is out in the hall.

Well does it matter if I change it from yellow brass lacquer to gold brass lacquer or is that even possible?

If you're plans are to strip the old lacquer and apply new lacquer using spray cans.... I can tell you that you are most likely in for a great disappointment. If you are serious about this... take your horn to a shop that's equipped for such things. Anything is possible if you have enough time and money.

Any idea on how much it would cost.
