Helicon Gooseneck

It just figures. I couldn't find any of the 3 goosenecks that work with my helicon. Well, they FIT, they don't all really work. The original one, that came with it to me at least, seems to be a little short for position, but the open bugle is pretty well in tune. The 4th valve, though, is horribly almost unusable. Another gooseneck, from a Pan American Eb souzie, makes it almost a little flat, which isn't bad, and the valve intonation is better. The 3rd, which was cobbled for a Conn Eb souzie, is totally unusable, but is the most comfortable. Go figure.

But, for the past week I've not been able to find any of the three. I happened to be in Tulsa, went to Tulsa Band, and Paul had a King pipe that almost...ALMOST... fits. It's a tad too big for the receiver, but with a little cleaning out inside the pipe it should be good. We're talking less than a mm. Only problem is, I don't have a King tuning bit right now, it's in storage, at least I hope it is. But, this King pipe is the MOST comfortable, and the 4th valve is amazingly in tune with it, at least from my first impression with an undersized Conn bit in it.

So, what happens this morning? I found all three goosenecks. I only paid $25 for this new one, but geezopete...Now, maybe I'll still turn up a King bit!

Oh, a personal aside to Bloke...I will not be going your way after all. I'll be leaving from Southern Kansas, and going through Shreveport.
