V. Persichetti - Serenade No. 1, Op. 1

Hello, TubeNet guys and gals!

I'm ingress into the thread-making role fully engorged and flat-out bursting with excitement. We assigned chamber ensembles in the community band, and I got the "top" group. It's populated in part by a handful of local band directors (a couple of them were even my teachers) and we are playing Persichetti's first Serenade (for ten wind instruments).

What I just want to put up for discussion is this piece. I've played Persichetti in band before, and this chamber piece is 100% freaky to the CORE. Anyone out there have anything to say on this?

I've had a look at it - it looks like fun, but I've not had the opportunity to play it with an ensemble.

We read through most of the piece at the first rehearsal last night. There are some (maybe A LOT) of exposed parts that, I guess, can be called "solo", but the piece is so abstract in the harmonic language that I don't know who is what. I'd like to get my hands on the full score to see just what the heck is up, as the whole thing is really, really complex.
