I love playing my Big 1927 Martin Sousaphone.It was Used In The Ringgold Band of Reading Pa. Very good horn, this one has a 24" Bell.

About those Martins: I've never been much of a fan of the sousaphone, probably because of playing all those change of command ceremonies in the army, but I really do like the Martin jumbos . . . if my wallet and a good 4-valve Martin Jumbo align at the right time . . .

I don’t see the 24" bell as a problem. Rather I find it makes the sousaphone more of a tuba with a more focused sound.

I'm with Klaus. I actually prefer the 24 inch bell both for tone and for maneuverability.

Great vintage Martin, Harv! That must be the one that you told me about when we met - that's your favorite that you use for the parades? It's not a Mammoth though, is it?

Yes this is the one we talked about ,No its not a Mammoth the bell reciver is 7&3/4 . I cant wait to hear about your jumbo Conn. and how it plays. I wish you were closer to me I would love to clean up that JUMBO CONN and give it good going over.

Well, Harv, a road trip is certainly in order at some point! Tell you what - I won't do much with the Jumbo right now except enjoy it. I'll bring it down to you and you can give it a going over - maybe in preparation for the next "Jumbo Summit"!!
I'll also bring down my Raincatcher, and maybe you could add a valve or three to it!
