So I have been doing some reading on the MW 2000 receiver and want to make sure I have my info right and pose a question.

So from my readings the MW 2000 has a "Venturi receiver". This is supposed to help the horn slot more yes? Also many people apparently took this off as it "slots notes too much for you" so many people switched it out for the straight 2155 receiver. Does this seem about right?

So here are my thoughts and a question. The 2000 isn't THAT big of a horn. My feeling is that this receiver made a horn that slotted well slot too much. However, has anyone put this receiver on a tuba that doesn't slot very well or has wide slots? I'm thinking that this receiver could be a good thing for very large CC and BBb tubas that have really wide slots or could make a horn that is hard to control easier to control (thinking Alexanders and York copies). I want to know the thoughts of others on this and I would also be willing to try this on a large horn or two if I could get one of these receivers (hoping someone that changed theirs out still has theirs).

Please share your thoughts. :tuba:

The receiver section of the mouthpipe is entirely too short to have that great of an affect on slotting. Slotting is mainly influenced by how quickly or slowly the mouthpipe gets to its maximum bore size. The longer distance traveled before reaching maximum bore in the mouthpipe the greater the slotting effect. This is called the taper, fwiw.
