These sound a nightmare to repair, but don't you think the difficult location of the 5th valve may be because B&S found it played best with that configuration?
I know when I enquired why the valves are rather higher than usual on the M-W 2040/5 it was explained that this was determined by how it played best.
In other words, optimal performance takes priority over ergonomics, or in this case ease of maintenance.
