The photo doesn’t look like that. And if the legs were flat on the floor, the stand would get unstable when the hinges wear.

Looks like the same folks who build microphone stands decided to add a desktop.

I do own this stand... and no, the legs do not lie on the floor. I think you will be more pleased with the conductor's stand:

Head is more stable and the stand is more adjustable.
