Has anybody tried the R&S and/or Atkinson "copies" of the Schilke Helleberg II side by side with an actual Schilke?

If so, could you tell the difference?

Thanks,

Christian

Yup (the Atkinson) and nope (but then, I'm not particularly discriminating).

I have a Schilke Helleberg II and a Atkinson H-II among others, as I am a huge fan of the Helleberg II rim.

The Sh-II was my main mouthpieces for years, and was showing it, so I went looking for a replacement.

I had heard good things about the Atkinson H-II from Chuck and others, so I decided that I would order one.

I've had mine for about a week now and I like it very much.

On first glance it looked shallower and not quite as wide as the Schilke, and the rim looked sharper. My face can't tell much of a difference, and for now I'm planning to stick with the Atkinson.

Never tried an R&S copy.

I have never heard of the Atkinson mouthpiece.

Would you be so kind as to put up a link to their site? I would also be curious to know what other mouthpieces they make for tuba and the other brass instruments.

Thanks,
CJH

Chris, give Mike Anderson a call over at Atkinson--he told me that they also make component tuba mouthpieces (rims, shanks, cups)

No problem -- the main page is here:

and the page with the tuba mouthpieces is here:

Hope this helps!

YES---

I was told that component mouthpieces were in the works and that they would do custom designs by special order.

They don't do business online, so you must call them. I found them to be nice folks to deal with and I got my package without problems.
