The blokepiece selection process...

Post by djwesp »

So, I'm having difficulty interpreting which blokepiece (exactly) I should buy. They have...

1. The blokepiece #1
2. The blokepiece #2
3. The blokepiece #1 rim on the blokepiece #2
4. The blokepiece #2 rim on the blokepiece #1

Here is the issue. I LOVE trying stuff before I buy it. I really feel more comfortable doing that than blindly following reviews and gut instinct. The only problem, these mouthpieces aren't readily available to me in any way. I have heard enough good things about these mouthpieces to be highly interested (as discussed with many people i.e. tubanerd88).

My vitals. Downstream player. Likes large diameter mouthpieces. Plays bright, so tries to darken a little with my equipment. 69C4/bowlish type player. Plays mostly Eb. Playing consists of solo rep, brass quintet rep, small chamber ensembles.

What is my best bet on blindly picking one of these puppies?

Good Morning DJ
I play a Besson 983, and I purchased Bloke's #2 w/ a #2 rim. I have a smallish upper lip area under the nose, so the thin rim of these mpc seem to give me more lip in the cup. I immediately experience a more consistent upper range and an easier, expanded pedal range, as compared to other mpc's with wider rims. It has a funny feeling to the face when you first start, but goes away soon into the playing. My other mpc's are the Dillon PS 3, a new Rudolf Meinl #9 w/ 7.8 bore. I like bloke's the best, beside's the #2 has a beer stein engraved on it. It's more pertinent to me than the Atlas is on the #1. Good Luck on your selection.
