How to find the model??
Hi I have an old King Sousaphone with one of the silver screws missing from the bell.. I went to my local repair shop took the serial # and they said they had to have the model # to find the right one... How do you find the model number?? the serial # is 271871 now horn-u-copia places it around 1945 but does'nt say what model number it is .. any help out there??I will do it myself if I find out how..bigbob

Re: How to find the model??
I guess the short answer to that question is that you post a picture here and hope that one of the experienced repair guys can tell you what it is. But (just a wild thought here) why not take one of the screws you have to this repair shop and show it to them and see if they have one like it? Or, take the horn to the shop try whatever they might have in the "bone pile" and see if one fits.
Always make a good sound; audiences will forget if you miss a note but making a good sound will get you the next job.

Re: How to find the model??
Indeed. I would actually prefer finding one out of a "bone pile" in order to match the patina and probably better match the threads. The model? Probably a 1250, now known as the 2350. But taking an existing one and matching it, or even better, taking the whole horn in to match a bone pile, is better and cheaper in the long run without the risk of a new part not fitting and having to be returned, especially since King has been assimilated into the Cyborg.

Re: How to find the model??
Bell screws changed slightly in configuration over the years so I doubt if ANY repairman can simply send you something that will match perfectly based on the model or serial number. The threads are probably 5/16-18. They are a little less common than the generics which are mostly 1/4-20 these days. If you want then to match perfectly, I suggest that you simply change all three. Find out which thread size you have and let us know.
