I'm going to be trying this soon. Do you have to play the recording through the microphone jack or is there another way to import? I tried searching the archives but didn't find the answer.
Thanks - Ryan

First link on a google search found that you can drag your song straight from iTunes or Finder directly into Garageband.

Re: importing Sony minidisc music into Garageband
it's been years since I tried this, but I remember being very frustrated with trying to do a digital (usb) transfer from my MD player into any mac program. I remember needing to use the Sony software in Windoze for the import from the MD, then converting it to a WAV file in the Sony software. Only then could I put it into iTunes or anything like that.
I decided it was much less hassle to plug it into the mic jack on the Mac and just record it in real time. If you find that's not as 'clean' an input as you like, you could look into some kind of external USB mic hookup. I never found the need.
I still like the MiniDisc format as a concept, especially since the Hi-MD version recorded uncompressed. I just found that Sony made the thing SO restrictive as far as what software/operating system it would work with that it became less and less attractive over time. I still use it for recording practice sessions and listening back to what I've recorded. I just don't like the 'getting the music onto the Mac' part. It could be that someone has hacked it since I looked. I hope so.
Best of luck to you.

the latest version of the sony software SonicStage at least allows to make mp3 from your own recordings. there is a tool for mac to find here:

Gerd (still working with minidisc for practice recording and missing such tool for linux)
