I've got Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights free in Paris, this week.

Where do I find the best music in town (preferably including a tuba)?

Within easy striking distance of the Lutétia Hotel would be a bonus.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during the day are also pretty unstructured at the moment.

Suggestion: look, if there is a concert of the Orchestra/Musique de la Garde Republicaine. They maintain one of the very best wind orchestras in the world. Perhaps you even could jump in at a rehearsal. Look at their website.

Whatever made you connect *classical* music to "music in Paris including a tuba"?

If I want "life-threatening" things that I can't do in BHM, I'll come to Memphis!

One more class to teach...and I'm off. Metro Pass, check. Museum Pass, check. Warm clothes, check. Empty suitcase, check. (there's this wonderful custom of the January Sales...) Dinner with 40 of the world's top Ophthalmologists...aye, there's the rub. The good news is that it won't be Post Bowling Alley cuisine. The bad news is that I'm starting to recognize some of these people.

I don't imagine there'll be much street music in the snow - which was why I was looking for hot tips on indoor venues. Most of what I find online is breathless advertising of visiting AMERICAN musicians. That and a seemingly endless stream of string quartets. There must be a Monty Python sketch in here somewhere.

Be sure and try the "Royal with Cheese".

You need to connect with the "American Tubist in France" Gary Kiser, of the Sac a Pulse Jazz Band. I can send you his e-mail off-line.
There are several interesting street-jazz-action bands in Paris, but the links to their websites are a bit funky right now.

That's a very good contemporary jazz ensemble!

You're quite unlucky, because this week is quite calm for the tuba here in Paris...
