Thanks everyone, the collective group said 2 thumbs up to the zoom, I just ordered one from Amazon, and my kids can have a recording to practice along with now.

When I started looking there were too many to choose from and all said this was the "Idiot Proof" way to go.

Thanks
Happy Tootin'

I am in need of some recording equipment and need the help of the masses to figure out what is best. I started looking and there are ton's of small handheld recorders.

I am not trying for CD quality results, but need a way to record a lecture recital and put it on CD for students to hear a piano track and follow along. Again, not looking to make a full blown professional release, but more for practicing along for solo and ensemble, etc. Just basic.

NEEDS TO BE:
Inexpensive, something I can pick up at Best Buy, or Radio Shack, or ships quickly.
Record as an MP3 and plug and play into my computer so I can burn a CD. (simple, simple, simple as I'm not a tech guy.

      I am really looking to:

record something, drop it on my computer, and burn it on a disc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of recording devices which have been discussed on here before.

However, the ZOOM H2 will do all you require and is relatively inexpensive. The results I get from mine are excellent! :) Several friends have bought one themselves after hearing my recordings.

I have a Zoom H4 and I love it. I use it for exactly what you are wanting to do. It is basically the same unit as the H2 but with a few more bells and whistles and better built in mics. The user interface on the H2 is much simpler to use.

What would be something in the same vein for audio and visual?

Maybe not the best sound quality, but it's cheap and has HD video too... eh??
