Playing Euphonium when your first instrument is a tuba

So today I was in study hall and I went to the music wing to help out with the freshman/sophomore concertband and I play tuba in the jr/senior wind ensemble but my music teacher today asked me to help out the euphonium player who was struggling with finding pitches. Now I play CC tuba and I have a decent range, everything in the range for the euphonium part in our concertband. My question is when helping should I have picked up the euph. to help and so that he could see the fingerings or just play it on my tuba? Any help would be greatly apreciated

You have to be careful in these peer-to-peer situations. My thought is that is would be best to be as positive as possible and ask him if he could use any help. Let him steer you to the problems he is having finding pitches. Is it a fingering issue? Problems hearing the pitches and therefore getting on the correct partial? General malaise? The specific problem(s) this player is having will change the remedy a great deal.
If you're playing along with him during rehearsal, I do think it would be best to play on the same instrument for the best results (is there another euphonium you could use?). Some players do benefit from the "peek-and-match" school of learning fingerings from a strong leader. If it's more of a "private lesson" type situation, than playing on your tuba probably won't make a difference.
Good luck to you...your band director must have a great deal of confidence in your abilities to give you such an assignment!

I dont think its really the fingerings its just he over shoots the pitches and hits the next partial so playing on my tuba wouldn't be a bad thing if I was playing and working with him. thanks for the advice. The only reason why is because the kid is too busy to take private lessons and she is not really a brass player so this is just to work on simple concertband pieces
