Does Miraphone vent the valves on any of their current models? I have read "hit or miss" on older ones, but don't know anything about their current practice.

The 5 valve BBb 1291 I bought new in 2006 had both the 3rd and 4th valve vented IIRC. Since I only (and rarely) pulled the 1st slide this didn't seem to be very useful.

My 1291 CC (made in 2004 or 2005) has all 4 pistons vented. I assumed this was stock, and just another feature of the 1291 I like!

All six valves on my Firebird are vented.

I've yet to see a miraphone rotary CC with stock vented valves.

You must not get out much.

I had a '74 Mirafone 186 5U CC that had (from what I can tell) factory vented valves. The previous, and first, owner gave me no indication that he had done this himself.

I've seen a lot of horns, of all the Miraphones I've played only the F's had stock vented valves. My 188 needs them pretty bad, subtle temperature changes make them go "pop" when I want to play, so I'm constantly fiddling with the valves clearing the pressure.

My 184-5U CC was delivered to me new in December 1974 with all valves vented at the factory. Serial number is 9275.

Next question: has anybody seen factory vented valves on rotary instruments that also have the little set screws like on the bottom valve caps so the casings can be closed off when desired?

There are small holes drilled in the valve which prevent pressure build up. Ever pulled a slide without pushing the valve, and heard the pressure build up, followed by a 'pop' when you push the button? That is eliminated with vented valves.
