I had traditional braces when i was playing was playing and they didn't effect my playing much. It did get annoying at times if you slip and hit yourself in the mouth (pulling up the horn, dropping it, etc.) but they souldn't be too bad with the traditional braces. If she does get the braces there are lip gaurds you can buy for I think ten dollars. from http://www.wwbw.com/Jet-Tone-Lip-Protector-i83249.music

Hope it helps

I played with braces from 9th grade to the beginning of my senior year.

I never noticed a huge thing, only time I had problems was playing prolonged amount of time in the higher registers. I never had a problem playing our band music with them.

I got them off a couple months ago I think, I haven't notice a huge difference to be honest.

I had traditional braces, so I cant' comment on invisalign however if you choose to get braces I recomend you push through it w/o wax etc to play, thats wat I did and I think it paid off in the end

i too have played with braces, when i first started for 2 years, then again a year after i got them off for about 9 months, and then once more about 6 months after that for about 6 months. I've had bad luck with my teeth! haha, oh well. As for affecting my playing: they didn't affect me very much at all. Occasionally they would cut the inside of my lip, VERY SELDOM though. I got to All-State Band in PA 1st chair one year with them on, and did it again the next year with them off. It shouldn't matter that much, but different strokes for different folks...

My only advice: just practice getting used to them and find an embouchure that is comfortable to play with.

just to add I did play with pressure.

I'd also strongly urge against changing your embrochure for the braces, or using any kinda guards.

In my opinion you will pay for it afterwards by having to relearn the right way to play. It will hurt at first but you will get to a point you wont remember how it felt BEFORE braces.. Atleast I did. Not to mention when you get em off you'll have the endurance of horse:D
