Satin Finish

Post by TubaRandy »

I recently had my Mirafone 186 overhauled with a new upright bell (it previously had the recording bell) and new rotor bumpers and such. Its completely de-lacquered and I wanted to see if anyone could possibly quote me on a satin finish. I talked to Dan about this via email and I was waiting for my account to be activated to post. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :tuba:

The local music shop down here in Fort Myers, it's called Cadence Music. They do GREAT work!

What kind of a bell did you have put on it, and how did it change the tone color and intonation characteristics of your 186?

I had another 186 bell put on it. The bell was from another 186 that i had at my school, my director let me put a new similar bell on the schools horn and put the Mirafone bell on mine. I really wanted my horn to stay ALL Mirafone and not become a Yamafone. The characteristics of the horn changed considerably because the bell front that was on it before made the horn feel stuffy to me. I think it was mostly because I wasn't used to not hearing myself. The horn plays beautifully now (as beautifully as it can with me playing it anyways) and it was definitely worth the price tag.
