Marine Band recordings

Post by Toad Away »

Thanks to a recent and thoughtful post by Bloke, I revisited some of my Marine Band CDs. First off was the 'Music Of Richard Wagner' (Rheingold, Walkure, Siegfried, Gotterdammerung)- this older recording has been an all-time favorite!
Then the 'Overtures' with Benvenuto Cellini, Carnival, Flying Dutchman, Le Roi d'Ys, and others.
Now I'm on the "Director's Choice" cd:

Year after year, decade after decade, The Marine Band remains a National treasure.
Besides the audition, all members must pass the tough
security screening and swear to protect our Constitution.

(OMG -was that political?)

Note that your local schools and public libraries can request free CD's from the USMC band. Details are on their website.

(USN and USCG bands also offer this service.)

It took me a while to figure out that if you click the "click for more" link under each recording on the "Discography" page of the Marine Band website, there are several downloadable tracks from each recording: http://www.marineband.usmc.mil/audio_re ... /index.htm I have also been picking up what I can from this marvelous group for cheap on the 'Bay, often in the overlooked "eBay stores" at the bottom of the search results.
