I've seen tuba players wear a harness of sorts (for when playing while standing up). My horn doesn't have any clip loops, I can't just use a normal strap.
Does anybody have any recommendations?
How expensive does that sort of thing normal run?

Blue Note has (had) a strap that utilized velcro loops to make your own attachment points.

If you ever use a harness,you will never go back!!!! I use it for concerts,really helps the back,you can also let go of your horn and rest!

I found a cheap and simple way to make harness attachments; I bought a pair of dog collars and buckled them around the outer tubing. It works great.

If you can find a way to attach velcro [or dog collars!], I really recommend the Meinl-Weston harness. I tried the Neo-Tech and found it sorely wanting, to be kind.For the M-W to work, you need a rectangular attachment on the bottom bow--it can't cost that much for a good tech to put one on and the ability to use the M-W would make it worth it.

I just acquired a neotech tuba harness and I too found it left a lot to be desired. But it is a lot better then holding a tuba up (while standing), and about 1/3 the cost of the M-W harness ($125 for the harness plus $35 for the attachment).

I will second that recommendation. After years of trying to find the best way to carry a tuba - that is it! I did two hours marching and standing with CC tuba last November 11th using the harness and experienced no back-ache at all

These harnesses are not cheap, but then one's health is important. Worth the cost to avoid back injury and a lot of pain.
