4 Star Brass Debut

Post by tubaguy9 »

Anyone know where to get a copy of the CD? A few years back I had gotten to borrow it from the guy I was taking lessons from and was rather craving some of the music from it...
I know it had Russian Sailor's Dance, Bugler's Holiday, Brazil, and some others...anyone have any leads on a copy?
I think I might end up as a grumpy old man when I get old...

I have a CD of 'Four Star Brass' floating around here... unless I gave it to a fellow tuba buddy. It was of a tuba/euphonium quartet from the Air Force Mid-America Band at Scott AFB near St. Louis.

One of the AF players a couple of years ago was David Hartung but I don't know if he's still with them or not. Surely someone on TubeNet has contact info for them.

My copy has the following on the back cover:

BMA-03113
This recording is approved for Department of the Air Force use and is not for sale.

(it was included with an issue of the ITEA Journal, as I recall -- you might contact ITEA and see if they can help)

If I remember right, I don't think so, I think I looked around for them online a year or so ago and found out that I think he's somewhere else...

I also think that it may be that they may have disbanded...Anyone know if this is true or not?

Found this. I'll bet if you got in touch with David, he would have info on how to get your hands on that CD:

Good luck!
I have what I think is David Hartung's current email address. I've emailed him about the CD. As I understand it... that CD was done for promotional purposes and a copy can probably be requested from the Air Force Band web site. Apparently "Four Star Brass" no longer exists.

Sequel....

Four Star Brass no longer exists. However... I received the following email from David Hartung:

"HI Dan!
I'm stationed in Germany with the USAF in Europe Band. 4 Star Brass is no longer together but ironically the BQ I'm in over here is called the 5 STar Brass! I promoted! :)
Hope all is well,
David"

I've asked David where one might get a copy of the CD. I'll post here when I hear back from him.

Follow-up message that I just received from David:

"Hey Dan,
I am sorry to say that all the copies are gone. Every member of ITEA received a copy so maybe burning a copy is the best bet.
You may want to contact Matt Kuebler at The Air Force Band of Mid-America.....

All the best,
David"

By-the-way.... I've located my copy of that CD. It was a promotion and never intended for sale. If you can't get a copy through The Air Force Band of Mid-America, or an ITEA member... send me a private email.
