Woodwind "Bore oil"?
Just returned from the music store and realized that the guy gave me something called "woodwind bore oil" instead of the valve oil that I asked for.
Anybody know if this can be used effectively on a horn instead of valve oil? And will it damage the horn at all if I do use it? Thanks!

Linseed oil turns sticky over time, and will go rancid. Even though it usually doesn't matter that much what kind of valve oil is used, if you like it and it fits your budget, in this case I'd return and exchange it.

One of the local music stores has been selling bore oil for rotary valve oil. duh!

Maybe the problem is confusing packaging?

Re: Woodwind "Bore oil"?
My son's bottle of valve oil looks exactly like the bottom picture that says "bore oil." Seeing that, I immediately went and checked it. It is valve oil, and it is a little bit more bluish tinged. Then again, it could be the same thing in a different bottle and just labeled differently, kind of like the way they do, or used to, label "cork grease" and "slide grease" differently, but they were (still are?) the same stuff in the squarish white plastic bottles.
