Schiller EEb (3+1) ?

I know Tuba Exchange has their TE-700, a Besson 981 copy. Does Schiller distribute one such tuba? Or, a better question is: Does Jim Laabs sell a copy cheaper than its competitors? On the Schiller website, I notice the picture that you click on under the Products page for the Tubas is that Besson copy...EXCEPT they don't have it listed under their tubas (nor do they have this new 1291 BBb copy)...

Even if they did, I wouldn't think it'd be any cheaper than the MM for $1850-

I have inquired previously about a Schiller Eb tuba and been advised they will be offering an Eb soon - it may even arrive this week. I don't know the nomenclature of the horn.

HI-
Just looked at a pic of the new Schiller Eb tuba--it DOES NOT look like the compensating Eb 3+1 that is the M&M's Besson clone. Maybe the wrong pic? I don't know.

The blurb says it's a 4-valve horn, but I only see 3 in the picture. Wrong horn, maybe? Or bad eyesight?

They have the picture set switched. Here is the link with the right pics (at this time) but with the description of that other horn:

I'd say no doubt the wrong horn.
It looks to me that the photo with the new listing of a 3-valve Bb tuba appears to be a 4-valve Eb, while the photo with the listed Eb looks like a 3-valve Bb.
A case of photo misplacement.

Has anyone else noticed the height of the lead pipe compared to the leadpipe placement on a Besson 981? Doesn't it look like it would hit about the collarbone instead of the face?

Whoa...I just noticed that (leadpipe). Hmm...I've got nothing. Anyone else?

Interesting. If you take a look at pictures of the 981, most have a leadpipe that takes an up angle after leaving the valves, then turns back horizontally after rising several inches (usually near the top of the valves. Fletcher's leadpipe in the You Tube videos comes straight out of the valves. It looks like it takes a slight upturn after rounding the bell, but I can't be sure that it's not just the angle of photography or the way that he angled the horn in his lap.
Maybe it's the difference between old and new models. Then again, I've wondered at the description of the 982 as having a higher leadpipe position than the 981, but I've never been able to tell a difference between the models in pictures even on the old and new Besson web sites, or on sites of companies that sell Bessons. I wonder if they used 982 pictures for both models and everyone else picked it up for their sites. It's a stretch, I admit.

The original Fletcher EEb 981 was a so called "concert" model, with a straight leadpipe. The ones with the curve are so called "marching" models, and used to be 982's. So this is a copy of the more sought after 981 Concert model.

Thanks, Andy. All of the online catalog pictures I've been able to find of 981's and 982's on any site seem to have the high leadpipe. Is this a redesign, and if so what's the difference between the two models? Or is it just wrong pictures again? Or am I blind?

All the "New" 981's seem to look like the old 982.

According to what has been said, the Schiller EEb seems to be an "appropriate" copy of the less recent 981. Sounds good to me!

I used to have one of the 981 with low leadpipe and a band 981 with the later raised leadpipe (like on the 982) - there was 4 inch difference in hight. They also come out at a different angle so the tuba needs to be held differently. Across the lap and at quite an angle to the right for lower pipe, or between legs more upright for high.
Which is better depends on personal preference.
