Several of you have ask to make notice when the next 6/4 CC is ready. I'm pleased to inform all that it is. Let me know via PM or email if you'd like to come to my shop to give it a try. You won't be disappointed. I will post pictures here at a later time.

Go try out this horn! I own the first incarnation of this model, and it's definitely worth the trip. One of the best tubas I've ever played.

I've made a couple attempts, but wasn't satisfied with the results. The first was about 25 years ago when I decided that the problems with the tall European model F tubas were primarily associated with there not being enough "U" bends in the bugle of the instrument. I didn't and don't quite understand the acoustics behing it, but I took my Meinl Weston F and hybridized in a couple more branches from an old small E-flat that I had. I wasn't as skilled and did some rather stupid things. The horn turned out being a third shorter in height and quite out of tune, however the problem of response that the original had in the low register cleared up! It had a great low C.

You'll notice that some of the new generation of F tubas have those extra "U" bends in the design. I wasn't guarded with sharing my findings. Perhaps some people in the business actually listened. The earliest European model F with this design modification was the little 182 which strongly resembles my original attempt. Other great playing F's have come along since like the Bobo Yamaha and the Petruska. Even my Yamaha YFB-621 has this feature. I don't think I can make an advance in an F playing better than those. But maybe sometime.

I think this new 6/4 compares favorably with the very best 6/4 CCs available. That's why I do what I do: push the envelope.

I've drooled endlessly over pictures of your creations including a large BBb that I found after a lot of searching. Could you make a 6/4 BBb that plays like a Miraphone 1291 only bigger? (Much bigger????). What would such a thing cost?

The Miraphone 1291 is a 4/4 (or small 5/4) horn. I'm positive Sam's 6/4 anything will play extraordinarily bigger than a 1291. My $.02.

I own one of Sam's 4/4 C's, and I'm sure that even being a "4/4" it plays bigger than the 1291, and I know from playing both that it stack up very well against the YCB822
in the "plays big" department.
