Chicago tuba shindig?
I remember reading about some sort of tuba-get-together on old Tubenet. Is anyone in Chicago interested in doing something like this? I can bring my 2 Eb's and my bass trumpet.

Re: Chicago tuba shindig?
Are you referring to the old Metropolitan Chicago Area Tuba Society (Metro-CATS)?

The one I read about was in California; I've not heard of that one.

Whatever happened to the concept of doing a 'Bloke-Fest'?... or did I just miss it?

I don't think anybody knows exactly what you're wanting to do judging by the variety of responses. There is a wide variety of get togethers that happen around the country. Are you seeking a reading session, a jam session or something along the lines of a few folks getting together and having a beer bash at somebody's house while tooting on other folks horns? A one time thing or a recurring type of event?Bob Kolada wrote:Bump (for apparently zero interest).
With the WWBW so close by car or via the South Shore and the Midwest Band Clinic held in the Loop every December I'm not sure there is that much demand for the toot on others horn thing. MetroCats worked well for a long time as a regular monthly get together and play music event with the every few months do a concert somewhere. It usually had attendance of 50-100. It was the only non-unniversity/college affiliated chapter of ITEA at the time. It disbanded for a few reasons after several good years. It is too bad one of the colleges in the area like NU or DePaul doesn't establish a chapter and crank something like it back up for both their own tuba/euph students and the other players in the area. I think that would attract a lot players. Perhaps you could get your university to start a chapter.
