Strange request?

I haven't been on here in forever(that's what she said), and realize this is a long shot, but I have to ask.

I'm at my conference tournament with my pep band. We have 4 sousaphones, and talked about how unbelievably awesome it would be if we could work up a four part sousa quartet polka. Would anyone on here happen to have such a thing available to send via email? I would be forever indebted.

You could pull some parts from the "Helicon Schottisch" and say it is a polka,
or arrange something from the piano score for the "Helicon Polka", but probably the best thing would to do a simple head chart for a somewhat more recognizable polka - "Too Fat (Smart)" is a good one, or "Roll Out the Barrel" or "In Heaven There is No Beer"

All you have to do is something simple:
- One horn takes the Ooms, another the Paws, 3rd takes the harmony and the 4th takes the melody - instant tuba polka! Embellish and modify, sing it, dance a bit - it all works. That is what we used to do in Pep Band. Be inventive! (I hope the skills of playing by ear and improvising have not been totally lost in 30-something years!)

Tucker Jolly published "Song and Dance: Sing-alongs and Polkas" (FTW Publishing, 415 Allyn St. Suite 1, Akron Ohio 44304) in 1995...Maybe it's still in print. Easy 4 parts.

Sorry that I don't have an arrangement ready for you, but "If You Knew Sousie" is the obvious choice.
