Practice Mute

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a practice mute, and I was thinking to a TrumCor,
Have you any comment?
Also, this mute fit completely in the bell? I mean it's possible to carry it in the bell of the tuba? or not

You don't really want any practice mute, but if you have to have one, get a Schlipf.
They also happen to be the most likely to fit completely into the bell so that the tuba will fit in a bag (and possibly a case) with the mute in place.

HI-
If I recall, Lee Stofer, who handles Schlipf mutes, was going to put out a size chart showing which mute fit which model of tuba--hopefully that will happen soon.

Find a huge one and glue blocks of foam or cork to it.

I'm also in NYC, have a Schlipf, and (now) have happier neighbors. Also, just sold the tuba I originally used it with, so it doesn't fit my new tuba. Will need a new one soon.
Likewise, I haven't tried any other practice mutes apart from the Schlipf... but it works very well for me.

it seems that the Schlipf is the best seller mute....the only problem is the size
I will talk with Mr. Schilpfinger in the next weeks and I will try some of his mutes, and ask about the possibility to have an adapter for different bell size.

you are right,
For what I know Mr. Schlipfinger is the only one who made the mutes, so it takes longer

Allesandro - If you are interested in a Yamaha Silent Brass Tuba mute I'm looking to sell mine ... I have it listed on tubenet ... I used to use it a lot when I was in Hawaii but have no need to use it any more. It will fit any horn and it actually folds up to take up less space than a traditional one. Hey TNFJ, does anyone know what size Schlipf will fit a MW Thor? I'm beginning to realize that I probably won't live across the street from a school of music for the rest of my life.
