I use a Bobo Solo on my Yamaha F tuba (yfb-621) when I'm looking for more brightness in the sound.

I use my Roger Bobo Symphonic mouthpiece and my Harvey Phillips Holton CC on nearly all my gigs. Until 2000 or so, I'd played the Bach 24AW I purchased at the factory in Mt. Vernon, NY, where I grew up. Over the years, it was refinished and re-gold-plated several times, but the Bobo mouthpiece was a revelation when I first played it at Osmun Brass after picking up a horn for repair. The thing is, though, you have to work with a bit. I found the Bobo very much more responsive than the Bach in the middle and upper and screech registers, but requiring a small bit of extra effort to get the pedal notes to speak roundly.

Regarding both the solo and the symphonic model, tighter sound yes, thin no. In fact the sound can be huge. The shallow cup helps efficiency, flexibility, and endurance. The rims are comfortable and responsive. When played them the first time coming from big open mouthpieces with deep cups, however, people tend to play too hard using too much (of whatever they were using before, e.g. "squeezing") to achieve the velocity with their old mouthpieces which was necessary. If you do that then the sound won't be good. It will be edgy and ugly. Listen to Roger Bobo and Roland Roland Szentpali. I don't think Roland's sound was particularly bright. You gotta find what's right for you though. But I'd encourage you to try them.
