Re: POST YOUR LOW BRASS SECTION PHOTO HERE
I'm going to have to dig in my archives and find some older stuff--I think I have the TubaMeisters from maybe 1992. But here's one for now:
Loudoun Symphonic Winds, 2002
Tubas: Rick Denney (York Master), Doug Steele (King 2341)
(The conductor, seen from the back, of course, is Gil Corella.)
Rick "a bit lighter and less gray in this picture" Denney

And here is the Loudoun Symphonic Winds tuba section in 2008: Rick Denney (Holton 345) and Maggie Malick (B&M Symphonic 5500)
This one, like the other, is clipped from a group shot during a performance. This picture included only part of the band, which is why I'm falling off the edge. The entire group picture doesn't hold up to sufficient enlargement to recognize people.

Why do some go very far to avoid their hair ending up in their valves?
Maybe because they dread locks!

Re: POST YOUR LOW BRASS SECTION PHOTO HERE
True that. At least the Allure still has an 11 piece house band (2 trumpets, 1 bone, 1 tuba/bone, 3 saxes, rhythm section) 6 piece rock band, (3) 4 piece bands for the Caribbean, Latin, and Jazz lounges, a string (violin and Guitar) duo and one other lounge duo as well as a pub musician and piano bar musician, and a conductor/pianist. We also even have a bagpiper!imperialbari wrote:A maddening thought, isn’t it?KevinMadden wrote:.......To my knowledge the only low brass 'section' on a cruise ship

With that many musicians employed, it must be a big ship, and I guess it is this one:

I live at the east end of the Great Belt Bridge mentioned, so I read about the Allure passing under. I wasn’t out looking, but those big ships passing under the bridge attract lots of photographers.

Thats the one! yeah the Oasis (it's sister) and the Allure had a retractable funnel incorporated into the design to clear that bridge, even so they clear the bridge by less than meter!imperialbari wrote:With that many musicians employed, it must be a big ship, and I guess it is this one:

Re: POST YOUR LOW BRASS SECTION PHOTO HERE
You quoted me so fast, that my error of east-west wasn’t corrected yet.
The bridge seen is for cars and forms the above-water eastern end of a complex also encompassing a railway tunnel to the east plus car and railway low bridges to the west. I played in the local railway band at the opening of the tunnel in 1997 and at the arrival of the last car-ferry in 1998.
The high bridge hasn’t been rammed by ships, but a Russian ship rammed the low bridge maybe 10 years ago. They had used a pilot out of a harbour a few hours before. The pilot hadn’t noticed anything odd, but when he left the ship the drunk first officer came out of his hiding, took the watch at the ship’s bridge, started the auto-pilot without setting it right, and fell asleep. He didn’t survive the collision with the low bridge. So we are very attentive about ships’ potentials for damaging our bridges.
