"Gee, Mark. Everyone on Tubenut knows that no one can play Alexanders in tune, especially when there are BBb's and CC's in the same section."

Sorry Randy, I forgot. We will have to start playing the Alexanders out of tune.

I love it!

On a different note, has anyone else noticed how whenever this thread is resurrected, we seem to get a LOT more pics?

We need to resurrect it more often.

In tune? That must mean that the Alex's are in tune with each other. The rest of the band... meh!

I don't have anything recent, but here goes:

Here's me with a few tuba players from Swarovski Musik Wattens, taken in Wattens, Austria, June 2005.

A bit of low brass rarely seen out in the wild. Jared Lantzy with the contrabass trombone for the Bartok gliss and I've got an H. N. White Rotary CC.

Bel Air Community Band Tuba Section, from the Fourth of July parade. The band sets up on a flatbed trailer which is pulled along the parade route. It's wide open, with no acoustical shell.

From left: Cheryl Wald- 4-rotor BBb, unknown make (but it does say "Made in Germany"), me with Conn 20J, Jim Laisure ("big1096") with Alexander 163 CC. Cheryl took the pic as an extended selfie.

And yes, we all played in tune!

Great Photo Cheryl,
Frank is correct. Our section always plays well in tune (and matches attacks, decays, dynamics, etc...) regardless of the tubas that we are using and the keys that the tubas are in. We take music seriously and playing as a section seriously. We say that we will either succeed together or fail together, but whatever happens it will be as a section! Frank always does an excellent job as acting principal and Jim is always ready to do the job if necessary.

great job :D :tuba: ,

From left: Jim Caneen, principal (Miraphone 186 BBb), Charlie Holmes (Alexander 163 BBb), Ron Berry (Meinl-Weston 1245 CC), Mark Kerestes (King BBb, believe it's a 1241), Frederick Young (custom built 6-rotor EE), Jim Ellison (Miraphone BBb, no model# but we're pretty sure it's a 186) and me with the Alexander.

This was one of the best concerts I've ever played. Colonel Gabriel is an amazing conductor!

Back on May 17, 2015, Chattanooga's Jericho Brass Band and Rome, GA's Roman Festival Brass played a joint concert at Ringgold High School in Ringgold, Georgia. The school has a remarkable auditorium, the Robin L. Christian Arts center, named for the gentleman who has been the band director there for the last 30 years. He bands are consistently superb. Ringgold's schools were badly damaged in the April 2011 tornado outbreak and had to be extensively rebuilt. The community named its gorgeous new high school auditorium after him.

The Roman Festival Brass has a fairly standard 28-30 in the group and four tubas. Jericho is a bit larger than average for a brass band and has 7 basses. One member played Eb in both groups, so the combined group had 10, 5 Eb's and 5 Bb's. Jericho is in blue jackets, and the RFB is in burgundy shirts. This was the first time I'd ever been in anything other than TubaChristmas with 10 basses, and it was a blast.

Lookin' good there Kevin. I see you got the replacement upright bell for your York Master. What's the other tuba player got for his horn?
