University of North Texas Tubas - Spring 2010

I'm counting over 30 tuba majors in that picture. Is this the largest university level tuba studio in the country?

I'm guessing only Indiana University at Bloomington reaches/surpasses this number?

Seriously... how many ensembles are there to give people an opportunity to play? Sounds like a place that's not for me...

One of my previous tuba teachers (a grad from UNT) told me that at UNT, you're just a number..not a person. And that may be the reason it is "sort of" looked down upon by tuba players. Again, this was not my opinion but somebody else's.

Well when you have a Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Brass Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, there's plenty of chances to play. In this picture, there are just all of the tuba players for this semester. Some are grad students who don't perform in the ensembles, some are student-teaching that came back for the picture, some are a certain Edward Jones of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, some aren't even music majors. These are simply the tuba players of UNT. Yes, it's a large department, but going into my second year of studies as a performance major, I don't feel like a "number" at all. If anything, I feel as if I'm part of a large family.

Sorry to get all defensive on ya'll, I just wanted to make sure people didn't start looking down on Don Little's studio just because I posted a picture.

The One More Time Marching Band low brass section.
Paul (bass trombone) and Alen (trombone) in front.
Thom with his Conn (and a house on his head) and Eric with his Holton (euph)
Me with my King Sousy.

The Parade theme was "raising the roof" and Thom's house roof would raise!

This fine photo and its caption make me remind playing in the brass band of the Danish equivalent of Boys’ Brigade. We played on very long street and road marches to keep the beat of the column behind us. Except in one certain situation, when the music stopped and we were ordered to march without a common beat: when passing bridges.
