Hello, I've been lurking for quite some time. This is a great forum. I'd like to ask you if you've got some info about a Miraphone Exclusive, I couldn't find any.

It's a Bb (large shank) tuba with 3 rotory valves, between 10-20 years old. Anyone got an idea?

One of the local music stores had a circa-1965 model on consignment here; it wasn't anything to write home about.

Ahh... that's too bad if it's like that horn, the price is really low (395 euro's).......

I found this 4 valve Miraphone (10 years old, 850 euro), izzat a steal???

That's a very good price: (about $1075 at today's exchange rates).

I hadnt' seen a silver miraphone before.

A follow up on the 4 valve miraphone Bb (most likely a 186) adventure. I'm very seriously considering buying this one. I'm a tromboneplayer for most of the time, now I double on tuba. I've been playing tuba (an old 3 pistonvalve Mahillion Bb with wick 2) for 9 month's now.

I'll arrange a try-out this week. Are there certain things I should be directing my attention to? Any flaws in this (186) particular make?

I've got word from Miraphone:

thank you for your inquiry. There were various models which we built for Hanssen Muziekcentrale. These were our serial models, but with the engraving "exklusiv" or "exklusiv e". The "exklusiv" corresponds to our type 07000 (brass, with nickel silver trimmings), which means that this is an professional model. The "exklusiv e" was the student model, completely in brass. If you give us the bell diameter of your tuba, we would be able to determine the model.
We stopped building these Hanssen models about 15 years ago.

I bought the Miraphone. A great responsive instrument with a great sound. Everything was in working order. I'll take some pictures to show later. It's nickel plated i guess.

The instrument is tuned at 440 hz, so it has to be cut to 442 hz. The previous owner had the shank of his mpc turned down, but that didn't help me out. Once it's cut it will be great since it plays everything quite in tune.

Update:

- the instrument won't be cut for now, it seems that the tuning is 443hz.

- I discovered a leak in a bow - to - bow - connection. The bottom bow has be removed, cleaned and resoldered.

- I finally managed to get the valves out the casing (yes those feet are mine...)
