Miraphone 1293 CC tuba?
Hi-
While browsing, I looked at the Hornguys website, and noticed a 'new' Miraphone model--no price given--a CC 1293--it says with a larger bell, oversize rotor-it is not on Miraphone's website--probably at ITEC next month--anyone play or see this instrument yet?
Thanks-

Re: Miraphone 1293 CC tuba?
Was this at Frankfurt? Is the larger bell possibly an effort to position the 129X as more of a 5/4 instrument?
Sounds cool though!
Or maybe trying to keep a step ahead of the Chinese, since they "figured out" the 1291?

Yes, it was at the Frankfurt Fair 2010 as a prototype. Now it is available on the market. European (advisory) prices: lackered Euro 10.952, silver Euro 12.143.
I liked it very, very much. Although I had to try it in a very noisy room, I felt it made a significant difference with the 1292. Except for the bell the make is identical with the 1292.
I would be very curious about the USA price for this!!
Hubert.

Hubert-
I believe(?) the 5th valve rotor is also larger than the 1291/2--is this correct?
Thanks-

Mark,
This is what recent advertisement says. It was not mentioned to me, when I was at the Miraphone booth in Frankfurt. Sorry, I do not know.
What I can say is, that I liked the really "orchestral" sound of it.

The 1293 is a very good horn. The bell is a little bigger and it was amazing as to how much more resonant the instrument became. The larger 5th valve also improved response in the low register and now the entire low register is more powerful and easier to play in than before. Extremely responsive and with the various improvements the color is extremely consistent. I was very impressed with how these few small changes had such a large overall effect on the performance of this instrument. I think they're on to something here.
Just my $0.02.

Re: Miraphone 1293 CC tuba?
Here are the specs from Miraphone:
model 1293
number of valves 5
size 5/4
compact
key CC
pitch 440 Hz
bell diameter 500 mm (19.7 in)
valves piston
5th valve = extra large rotor
valve section front action
nickel silver slides
bore conical 19.6 mm to 21.2 mm (0.772 – 0.835 in)
body material brass
lead pipe material nickel silver
mouthpiece TU31
finish lacquer or silver
extras 2 exchangeable lead pipes (medium and large)
The leadpipes available are the large from the 1291, the medium from the 1292, or both, in a removable configuration. I preferred the large pipe. The oversize 5th rotor works so well on this horn that it makes me want to play as many low notes as I can with it.
Should price out at a bit over 10K USD.
Best,
Steve Ferguson

The picture and specs remind me of my Mira 1295 that I sold a couple of years ago. That sure was a good tuba.

Why are they going with the interchangeable leadpipes? Can this tuba be ordered "non-modular"?

Is there a difference in sound between the non- modular and the interchangable leadpipe?? Since I've never even seen a interchangabe mouthpiece I'm just curious..... thanks......................bigbobCJBlaha wrote:Why are they going with the interchangeable leadpipes? Re: Miraphone 1293 CC tuba?
Dang...shiny.
Looks cool, and maybe it *is* the same bell as the 1295? You can bet that Miraphone researches and trys lots of combos of parts that they already have.
bigbob -- I had a 1291 and replaced the leadpipe with a 1292 leadpipe. The sound wasn't different so much as the way the tuba played. Better response and everything just centered a little tighter. Uh oh... starting to miss that tuba now.

From what I've found by searching the archives, I assume the 1295 was a short-lived 5/4 version of the 1291?

There probably isn't, but I prefer to make things as simple as possible. Mouthpiece - tuba - point - shoot.
I would guess that if this comes with 1291 and 1292 leadpipes, one would have to also have American and European shank mouthpieces to match up with those receivers.

Concerning the bell... is the bell flare the only difference 18.5 vs 19.7?

Surely it will just be the bore of the pipe which differs - not the receiver much like on the B&S Neptune. I find the exchangeable pipes additionally useful for easy cleaning of the pipe which is where most dirt accumulates. Just take off once a month and run snake cleaner through.CJBlaha wrote:I would guess that if this comes with 1291 and 1292 leadpipes, one would have to also have American and European shank mouthpieces to match up with those receivers.
That is a really big bell at 500mm diameter. I hope they have increased the throat as well!

The 1295 came after the 1290 and before the 1291. It was a full size 5/4 with the 19.5" bell and the .772 bore.arpthark wrote:From what I've found by searching the archives, I assume the 1295 was a short-lived 5/4 version of the 1291?
