What's a good gig bag for a tuba with 4-front piston valves (Conn 4J)?

It depends. Do you want to save money on the bag, or protect your tuba?

If buying a gig bag, I'd definitely go with Cronkhite. It's true that they aren't there for protection, but if it ever came down to needing it this would be your best bet at not completely destroying your tuba. It's definitely worth the extra money.

I like my Soundwear bag real well. I use if for my Willson 3400 and my Schmidt 3102. There is a lot of bell protection and it is very comfortable to carry long distances. It seems to be well made- I use it a lot, have had it for several years, and no signs of wear.

Ditto for Cronkhite, if you've got the cash.

I walked about a mile with my Marzan in it's Cronkhite. VERY comfortable, and though some people say that they hang too low, I love that it does. With my Alteiri bag, the bell was way above my head, and it was easy to bonk into things. The Cronkhite is at/below head level, so if you can comfortably clear something with your head, your horn if fine too. The backpack straps have wide pads too, so it spreads the weight evenly. Very cool stuff.
